For Juma Mihambo, the answer is a total of 1,200 miles through Tanzanian countryside on an old bicycle. Mihambo\u2019s son was born with clubfoot, a birth defect that affects 75,000 newborns each year. The condition causes one or both feet to curl inward and upward making walking painful or even impossible.&nbsp;<\/p>\n\n\n\n<p><strong>While clubfoot is a treatable condition, 90% of rural Tanzanians don\u2019t have access to proper care.<\/strong> Children living with untreated clubfoot face a lifetime of pain, social stigma, and poverty.<\/p>\n\n\n\n<figure class=\"wp-block-image size-large\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" width=\"1024\" height=\"576\" src=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/wr_blog\/1\/2021\/09\/Photo-2-1024x576.png\" alt=\"miraclefeet\" class=\"wp-image-488\" srcset=\"https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/wr_blog\/1\/2021\/09\/Photo-2-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/wr_blog\/1\/2021\/09\/Photo-2-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/wr_blog\/1\/2021\/09\/Photo-2-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/wr_blog\/1\/2021\/09\/Photo-2-1536x864.png 1536w, https:\/\/storage.googleapis.com\/wr_blog\/1\/2021\/09\/Photo-2.png 1920w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 1024px) 100vw, 1024px\" \/><\/figure>\n\n\n\n<h2 class=\"wp-block-heading\">Miraclefeet foundation for eliminating clubfoot<\/h2>\n\n\n\n<p><a href=\"https:\/\/www.miraclefeet.org\/\" target=\"_blank\" rel=\"noreferrer noopener nofollow\">MiracleFeet<\/a>\u2019s mission is to increase access to proper treatment for children born with clubfoot in low- and middle-income countries. Through the highly effective Ponseti Method, which utilizes a series of casts and braces in place of invasive surgery, children gain full, lasting mobility. Since their founding in 2010, <strong>MiracleFeet has helped over 58,000 children in 327 clinics worldwide.&nbsp;<\/strong><\/p>\n\n\n\n<p>It was one of these clinics where Mihambo found treatment for his two-week-old son, Vicent. Loading his family of three on his bicycle, he made the five-hour journey to the clubfoot clinic 18 times over two years.
